February Dragon gives us insights into family life in the Australian bush as it was in the 1950's and 1960's. Both the interaction of family relationships and the damage posed by bushfires still have relevance to life today - over half a century later. However, some aspects of daily life in the 1950's and 1960's are quite different to life today.
The distinction between city life and country life - both the similarities and the differences - exists today just as it did in the time period of February Dragon.
By researching this era we are able to establish some of these differences.

I have discovered that the fashion in the 1960’s and the 1950’s have very different fashion from the two decades. As I have seen in research, 1960’s clothing was very colorful and bright. In the 1950’s the clothing for women were longer dresses and men would usually were long pants even when it was bright weather.

I have discovered that in the late 1950’s and the early 1960s there were small general stores and early supermarkets such as Safeway. Today we have supermarkets like Coles and Woolworth. General stores do not really exist anymore these days although we have corner shops where you can buy a variety of things.

Yes it is quite different now.
How you may ask.
Well before 1966 Australians were still using the pre-decimal currency which consisted of the farthing, half-penny, penny, shilling and pound. After the pre-decimal currency was the decimal currency which consists of cent and dollar.

I discovered that a lot of homes in the 1950's and the 1960's had a lot of verandas. Some houses were made of wood and had sandstone steps.Houses did not look as flash and bright as our houses today.

Yes things are very different from 57 and 47 years ago. For example cars are very different from 57 and 47 years ago because cars now are more high tech but in those days
Cars were more flashy and decorative for example now car manufactures study more on making the car better at performance but back then they had fins , fuzzy dice and ragtops.

I found out that some lollies are different. Some are the same but with a different name for example aniseed balls are called gobstoppers. There are many different companies trying to sell olden day lollies so that you could remember when you were young.
I agree with the many comments posted here - you have done some good research. The most interesting difference I think (apart from technology) is the clothes - as Connie has said. I am also wondering if men wearing hats will 'come back' into fashion (I hope not!)

I read all your comments and I think I want to read the book!!!
